Control of protein-based pattern formation via guiding cues

چکیده

Proteins control many vital functions in living cells, such as cell growth and division. Reliable coordination of these requires the spatial temporal organization proteins inside which encodes information about cell’s geometry cell-cycle stage. The study protein patterns has long focused around formation uniform environments. However, recent years, it become evident that heterogeneities are essential for patterning, various guiding cues or at boundary can be exploited to reliably pattern formation. We review how guided by size shape, other act templates, mechanical properties cell. basic mechanisms elucidated with reference observations biological model organisms. posit understanding controlled cells will an part processing systems. Living use geometric, biochemical intracellular regulate functions. This Review discusses guidance unveiled them from a physics perspective.

Guiding the Search-Based Testing via Dominances vs. Control Dependencies

The representation of the problem and the definition of the fitness function are the two key ingredients for the application of search-based optimization to software engineering problems. Therefore, a well-defined fitness function is essential to the effectiveness of search-based testing (SBT). Several search based test-data generation techniques utilized the control dependencies (CD) for guidi...

Protein Pattern Formation

Protein pattern formation is essential for the spatial organization of many intracellular processes like cell division, flagellum positioning, and chemotaxis. A prominent example of intracellular patterns are the oscillatory pole-to-pole oscillations of Min proteins in E. coli whose biological function is to ensure precise cell division. Cell polarization, a prerequisite for processes such as s...

Geometry-induced protein pattern formation.

Protein patterns are known to adapt to cell shape and serve as spatial templates that choreograph downstream processes like cell polarity or cell division. However, how can pattern-forming proteins sense and respond to the geometry of a cell, and what mechanistic principles underlie pattern formation? Current models invoke mechanisms based on dynamic instabilities arising from nonlinear interac...

SPOTLIGHT REVIEW Molecular cues guiding inflammatory responses

Alarm signals generated at inflammatory foci reach the vascular lumen to attract immune cells towards the affected tissue. Different leucocyte subsets decipher and integrate these complex signals in order to make adequate decisions for their migration towards the inflamed tissue. Soluble cues (cytokines and chemokines) and membrane receptors in both endothelium and leucocytes orchestrate the co...

Guiding Lights - Facilitation of Way-finding for People with Dementia via Spatial Light Cues

The percentage of People with Dementia (PwD) in residential nursing homes is increasing. PwD are facing difficulties in their daily activities, including way-finding. In this paper, we propose light cues as a solution for supporting PwD in orientation and way-finding in the facilities. A study on a spatial searching task with four participants was conducted. Preliminary results indicate a stron...
